Match Preview: Sporting Khalsa vs Bury FC

Pyrrhic Victory

Bury FC are back in action and will travel to the West Midlands to face Sporting Khalsa at the Guardian Warehousing Arena this Saturday afternoon, October 18. Aiming to extend their incredible run of league form that has seen the Shakers rise to the top of the table, writes Rizki Ramadhan Putra.

Dave McNabb’s men head into the unbeaten fixture in the league since the end of August, with seven successive victories showcasing not only results but also remarkable consistency in performance. Their last defeat came in the Isuzu FA Trophy, when their youthful U-21 side fell 7-0; now the senior squad has since responded in dominant fashion.

Confidence is flowing through the team following a blistering September, capped by emphatic home wins over Chasetown and Wythenshawe Tow -, the matches in which Bury netted four goals within the opening half. The attacking trio of DJ Pedro, Kai Evan, and Rustam Stepans has been pivotal, combining for early strikes that have left opponents stunned.

However, the Shakers now face a crucial test away from Gigg Lane, where they won’t return until November 1. The Shakers are expected to travel in strong numbers once again, and their passionate support could prove vital as the team looks to make it eight league wins on the bounce.

Saturday’s opponents, Sporting Khalsa, currently sit in 17th of the table with 11 points from 13 games. Despite their position, they will be buoyed by a spirited 1-1 draw at Kidgrove Athletic earlier this week, where they denied victory in the final moments. Founded in 1991 by the local Sikh community, Khalsa have built an admirable footballing institution, becoming the first Sikh-owned club in Britain to purchase their own ground, the Aspray Arena, now known as the Guardian Warehousing Arena.

Kick-off is at 3pm, with supporters encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to ease congestion. For those unable to attend, live audio commentary will be available via Roch Valley Radio, while updates and highlights can be followed across the club’s official channel.
