Wythenshawe Town open 2026 with a win against Trafford FC

Wythenshawe Town started their 2026 campaign with an important home victory against Trafford FC, writes Christian James.

Wythenshawe Town earned three points after a close match against Trafford FC in Matchday 25 of the Northern Premier League. This was an important win as they looked to gain momentum heading into the second half of the season.

On paper, Wythy Town were the stronger team, as they were sitting three points above Trafford FC with an eight-point difference. This was a must-win match for Wythy Town, as dropping points would have been considered unacceptable.

With a full squad in the starting XI, Wythy Town started the match strong. They controlled most part of the first half. Most of the chances in the first half were coming from the home side. Even though Trafford FC struggled to get going, they struck first in the 40th minute after a miscommunication at the back. Trafford FC were able to convert that error into a goal.

Wythy Town didn’t need much time to equalize. Six minutes after they conceded, Demi Rhami scored a goal to swing the momentum in favour of Wythy Town. Demi Rhami’s equalizer brought the match level at half-time.

In the 50th minute, a disaster struck Trafford FC. Jack Sloan was sent off with a straight red card after a reckless challenge, giving Wythy Town an advantage because Trafford Fc were now playing with ten men. Wythy Town took this advantage and began to attack the visitor’s defence relentlessly.

Wealth Dasilva scored the winning goal in the 60th minute after constant pressure. After this goal, both teams were trying to find another goal but there was no further goals followed.

Reece Davis was named Man of the Match. He recently joined the club from Winsford on dual registration.

This result is important for Wythy Town as they still fighting to climb out of the relegation zone. Even though they still sit in 19th place in the league table, they are now level on points with teams in rank 16th to 18th. If they keep this momentum, they have a great chance to climb up to the mid table.

Wythy Town’s next challenge will be against Bootle away from home in Matchday 26 of the Northern Premier League. Rank wise, Bootle is a better team and it would be a difficult match for Wythy Town. They have to show a great mentality to go home with at least a point.
