On January 1, FC United of Manchester hosted Ashton United. It was their first match of the new year and it was the away team who would get the bragging rights with a single goal to win 1-0. Before kick-off, there were line-up changes. Charlie Ennis was pulled out due to fitness issue, prompting Mark Beesley to put Jordan Buckley on the starter line-up and positioned Michael Donohue in the midfield.

FC United began their first-half with some chances, but all of them were off-target. The home team had an opportunity in the 24th minute. Jordan Buckley was fouled in the penalty area, meaning FC United was awarded a penalty kick. However, the home side failed to add score because Jordan Eastham kept the ball out of the net.

Ashton United also created some good chances, including a long-range attempt from Callum Rowe. Similar issues with FC United, The Robins weren’t able to produce goals due to poor positioning and good blocks from opponent. But things went different for the visitors. In the 31st minute, Dylan Cogill broke the deadlock. With an assist from Luke Burke, Cogill made it 0-1.

It was the only goal scored by Ashton United in the match. After half-time, the away team didn’t score further goal. Unfortunately, FC United failed to maximised their chances in the second-half. The red team weren’t able to form a breakthrough. Until the final whistle, the score remained the same. FC United lost at their home ground 0-1.
