Altrincham came from behind twice and then produced an epic comeback to secure a dramatic victory over Scunthorpe United in the National League, writes Adhi Prasetya.

The Robins won 4-2 on Saturday at The J.Davidson Stadium thanks to three goals in the final minutes. This was also the first game since Neil Gibson was appointed as permanent manager four days before.

This result put Alty into the 14th position on the table with 26 points, while Scunthorpe stayed on the sixth place with 37 points.

The hosts didn’t start well, conceding after 13 minutes. Carlton Ubaezuonu’s stunning overhead kick flew hard past Alty’s goalie Luke Hutchinson into the top right corner.

But Alty levelled the game in the 33rd minute as Tom Crawford rose highest from Charlie Kirk’s to head the ball past Scunthorpe’s Rory Mahady to the bottom left. James Gale had the chance to take the lead in the 40th minute, but his effort hit the crossbar.

Scunthorpe retook the lead in the 60th minute after Alfie Beestin capitalised on Tyler Denton’s clever through pass to put the ball into the hosts’ net. But as the game seemed to be the visitors’, Alty scored three late goals in six minutes.

Matty Kosylo sprinted towards the goal from the left side in the 89th minute to shoot Kahrel Reddin’s beautiful cross to make it 2-2.

And then Olly Crankshaw’s wonderful lob from outside the box in the first minute of stoppage time gave the host the lead for the first time in this match. And he didn’t stop there.

The 27-year-old winger exploited Mahady’s mistakes to run from the back to lead the counter five minutes into the stoppage time and finished it into the empty net to seal the win.

Alty will travel to Hampshire to face Aldershot Town at the EBB Stadium on Saturday, December 6.
