Wigan returned to the top of the table after the Manchester Derby win, writes Max Peberdy.
Their ascension to the top of the Super League came after a convincing victory against Leigh Leopards.
Tries for Wigan camefrom Junior Nsemba, Jake Wardle, Adam Keighran, Patrick Mago, and Harvie Hill.
The only try for the visitors came from Lachlan Lam.
It was a fast start from Wigan as Nsemba bullied his way through Leigh’s defense and was converted by Keighan for an early six-point lead.
Wardle then put Wigan further ahead with a quarter of an hour gone.
Keighran contributed with a try and two conversions as well as a try from Mago to give the home side a 22-point lead going into the break.
After the teams went back onto the field, it was a fast start for Leigh with a try coming from Lam and the converted by Darnell McIntosh.
However, a try from substitution Hill gave the home side a comfortable derby victory.
The win means that Wigan leapfrogged Hull KR and are back to the top.
Leigh now remain eighth and five points out of the top six.
The game had to be played midweek due to Wigan’s World Club Challenge win against Penrith Panthers in February.
This means Wigan have a difficult turnaround as they will travel to Leeds to face the Rhinos on Saturday.
Leigh will welcome struggling Hull FC to their home field as the Leopards aim to finish in the top six.
