A football manager has moved quickly to quash rumours after one of his staff members moved on by addressing it directly on social media.

Nigel Keogh has moved on from Ashton United to a new position and has reportedly left on good terms.
The club made the announcement yesterday (August 5) and released a statement on their website.

Manager Steve Cunningham told the club at the time, “While shocked and disappointed of Nigel’s decision, I have always said that we will never stand in the way of any player that wants to move on, and this extends to my staff too.
“Nigel leaves with my best wishes and I know he will be successful wherever he plys his trade.”

The club then placed on record their thanks to Nigel for his hard work over the last 18 months and wished him well for the future.

Earlier this evening, manager Steve Cunningham addressed a group of supporters on social media.

“Guys just to stop anymore accusations flying about as to why Nigel has left, he has chosen to leave the club as he has been offered a role in the league above which will be announced soon.

“The rumour of being forced out by staff members and playing staff is ridiculous.

“If this is the case and Nigel has spoken to that individual indirectly then I would be very disappointed and let down by Nigel.
“But I don’t think that’s the case and I feel gossiping can be dangerous within a small fan base, and could potentially derail all the positive work being done from when we took over.

“Since I have become a manager I have never had official titles for staff other than physio as that is a specific individual role.

“The rest of the management team and playing staff all chip in and can have a say/input/voice/opinion but the final say is with me so no one should ever feel pushed out.”

Keogh then posted: “Evening all, I have taken a role In the league above which has completely come out of the blue and a decision that was made by myself and with no influence by anyone or anything.

“Whatever has been said and the rumours that are going round are rumours and not necessary.
“I have spoken with Steve and explained my decision which was a very difficult one.
“If I had an issue with anyone or anything this would have been dealt with in house.
“This is not the case, and I leave with nothing but the upmost respect and best wishes for each individual I have come into contact with at AUFC.
“I will discuss anything with anybody so feel free to contact me direct if you feel you need to. I wish everyone attached to the club all the very best.
“Continue to get behind the lads and Cunny and have a successful season.”
