A club from Nottinghamshire played a pre-season friendly in Manchester earlier today as Newark and Sherwood United travelled to Moorside Rangers in Swinton.

Newark and Sherwood United were county cup champions of Nottinghamshire two seasons ago and play at step five level in the United Counties League Premier Division North competition.
Both sides were evenly matched in the first half with The Highwaymen walking off the pitch up 2-1.

The second period saw the visitors switch it up and they found the goal two more times including a penalty from Luke White which was his second successful netting of the match.
The hosts also managed to add to their total to score a goal either side of the break.
Visiting team manager Romaine Graham was quite experimental as he trialed two different goalkeepers and put his regular number one, stalwart Ross Woolley on the field as an attacker.

Surprisingly, Woolley did not look out of place as he pressed the home side’s goal several times.
“What can I say, it was a bit of a crazy day today,” said Graham after the match.
“I don’t think we quite hit the levels that I wanted us to but we got the result.

“To be fair to the opposition, they were a good team and they made it difficult for us.
“They ran some good patterns of play but in the end it was our quality that shone through and got us the win.

“I am a bit disappointed because we made it harder than it should have been.
“The positive is that we got some good goals.”

The Highwaymen will now take on Anstey Nomads, a side that they have a lot of history with including cup battles.
The match will take place on Tuesday.
