Wythenshawe Town have parted ways with head coach Chris Willcock following their loss to Newcastle Town, extending the club’s poor form in the month of January, writes Christian James.
Wythy Town started the game well against Newcastle Town. Both teams tried to attack each other’s defense but Wythy Town created more chances in the first half.
Despite constant pressure from Wythy Town, they were unable find the opening goal. In the 40th minute, the visitors struck first with a goal from Joel Matthew Jones. The first-half ended with Newcastle Town holding the lead.
Wythy Town performed better in the second-half. They carried the same intensity from the first-half into the second-half. The hosts pushed forward to find an equaliser, but struggled to create a big chances, only managed to create half-chances.
There were no additional goals in the second-half and the match ended in a 0-1 defeat for Wythy Town, extending the club’s winless run to five games.

With this result, Wythy Town are still sitting 21st on the table and remain rooted in the relegation zone. This result was also the final straw for their head coach, Chris Willcock. After almost a full season, Chris Willcock’s time at the club has come to an end.
January was not a good month for the club in terms of results. Chris Willcock could only brought one win in six matches, along with one draw and four defeats.
Since joining the club, Chris Willcock recorded only six wins in the league in 29 matches. Wythy Town also exited the Manchester Premier Cup in the quarter-final stage.
Wythenshawe Town’s board thanked Chris Willcock and his management team for their efforts during their time at the club. The club have not yet announced a replacement, although a new head coach could be named before Wythy Town’s next match against Mossley on 7 January 2026.
This change of head coach is hoped to bring positive change for the club, as they are still fighting to keep their position in the league and avoid relegation.
