The win over Aston Villa has extended Manchester City’s win-streak run, writes Jovan Radjawane.

Manchester City Women demolished Aston Villa Women 6-1. Besides the win, the match was special for Kerstin Casparij and Khadija “Bunny” Shaw. It was the 100th appearance in all competition for the Dutch international since her arrival in 2022, while Shaw became the first player who scored 100 goals for Manchester City Women’s team.

Shaw scored her 100th goal in the first-half. Vivianne Miedema passed the ball well, which helped the Jamaican forward created history. Before the referee blew for half-time, City doubled their lead, as Villa’s defenders couldn’t prevent Shaw from registering her 101st goal.

Goals were raining in the second-half. After conceding a third goal to Aoba Fujino, Lucy Parker ended City’s clean sheet in the 70th minute. Unfortunately for Natalia Arroyo, instead of a possible comeback, City thrashed Arroyo’s side with three more goals. And just three minutes after Villa’s goal, Miedema restored the goal margin.

Shaw definitely stole the show. In the 84th minutes, the former Bordeaux player completed a hat-trick with a nutmeg finish. She didn’t stop after scoring three. In the injury-time, Bunny scored the fourth goal through deflection, with Grace Clinton as the assist provider.

Currently, Manchester City are sitting on the the first position with 30 points. They have scored 32 goals and conceded 10 goals in the Barclays Women’s Super League. It doesn’t mean City had an ideal start. First, they opened 2025/2026 season with a defeat to Chelsea. Second, this season they competed under new manager, Andrée Jeglertz, after five seasons under Gareth Taylor.

Fortunately for City, Andrée Jeglertz is a seasoned manager in women’s football. The Swedish manager had won both domestic and international trophies with Umeå IK between 2004 to 2008. Currently, he is transforming Manchester City. After the defeat to Chelsea, The Cityzens haven’t tasted any defeat or draw in the league since.

It’s still too early to say that City will win WSL. It’s still half-season and football is well-known for being unpredictable. At the same time, it will be great for the The Cityzens if Jeglertz can deliver a league title because they haven’t won one since 2016.
