Winsford United hosted Prestwich Heys in the continuation of The Isuzu FA Vase 3rd Round, last Saturday at Barton Stadium, writes Bima Ivano.

Heys had initally taken the lead through Takura Sambizi’s goal in the seventh minute before Winsford managed to turn the situation around and make them celebrate at home as they clawed two back. The game ended 2-1 to the hosts.

Despite a strong performance in the opening 20 minutes and what should been taken a three-goal lead, missed opportunities allowed Winsford to score twice late in the match. Winsford equalized through Niza Chilufya in the 93rd minute after a corner from the left was flicked past goalkeeper White at the far post, producing a superb finish in front of the main stand.

This pressure continued for the next two minutes, before the hosts managed to seal victory. A loose ball on the left side of the penalty box was met by Oliver Pope with a powerful shot from around 18 yards out that went into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Prestwich Heys completely lost focus, conceding their second goal, and suffered a painful 2-1 defeat. A strategic mistake was choosing to defend too deep, which gave the home team a chance to come back before finally conceding two goals in added time.

This result means Prestwich Heys have to bury their dreams of going further in the Isuzu FA Vase.
