Ramsbottom United vs Abbey Hey: Rams aim to extend unbeaten home record

CSUMB Military Appreciation Day

Ramsbottom United return to the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium this Saturday for the first time in six weeks, aiming to preserve their unbeaten league home record in the North West Counties League Premier Division, welcoming Abbey Hey, writes Nakisha Kyla.

The Rams are currently in second table with 35 points from 15 games and come into the fixture in impressive form, having won five consecutive matches and eight of their last nine in all competitions. Kick-off is set for 3pm on October 25.

Manager Steve Wilkes won’t take this game lightly after their narrow 1–0 victory against Abbey Hey in August. Although Abbey Hey are still near the bottom of the league, they’ve shown improvement recently, staying unbeaten in their last two matches, including a solid 2–1 win over Prestwich Heys on Tuesday.

Wilkes said, “We now turn our attention to Abbey Hey, who gave us a tough game a couple of months ago, and they will want to use their recent upturn in form and bring it to the HWRS on Saturday. We know it will be tough, all the games are, and we will definitely not be taking this game lightly.”

Historically, Ramsbottom have dominated the fixture, winning 17 of the 28 previous meetings. Abbey Hey has failed to score against Ramsbottom United since 2009, a goalless period stretching over 543 minutes.
