The match started brightly for the hosts, who pressed high and moved the ball quickly through midfield. Their persistence paid off in the 34th minute when Josh Austerfield broke the deadlock, reacting first to a rebound inside the area to put Salford ahead.

The goal gave Karl Robinson’s side the platform they needed, allowing them to dictate possession and limit Stockport’s time on the ball for much of the half.

Salford doubled their advantage early in the second half after being awarded a penalty. Jay Bird stepped up confidently to slot the ball into the bottom corner in the 55th minute. The momentum stayed with the Ammies, and fifteen minutes later, Kallum Cesay made it 3–0 with a fine curling finish from the edge of the box that left the goalkeeper with no chance.

Stockport managed to reduce the deficit in the 85th minute when Odin Bailey converted a late effort, but by then the outcome was already sealed. The visitors struggled to contain Salford’s direct play and intensity throughout the contest.

With this result, Salford move to the top of Group A, giving them a strong advantage heading into the final round of group fixtures. Robinson praised his side’s focus and efficiency, noting that their energy and decision-making were key to securing another important win in the Vertu Trophy campaign.
