Witton Albion came from behind twice to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory over Mossley AFC at Wincham Park in a pulsating Northern Premier League encounter, writes Resky Rahmat.
The match exploded into life early when Witton’s Ebhote gave the home side the lead in just the 6th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse to slot past Lilywhites goalkeeper Madigan.
But the Lilywhites responded swiftly. In the 19th minute, striker Kgwakgwa latched onto a clever through ball and finished coolly to level the score, sending the travelling Mossley faithful into raptures.
The sides went into the break locked at 1-1, with both defences regrouping after a frantic opening 45 minutes that promised even more fireworks after the interval.
Those expectations were met—and then some. The second-half began with renewed intensity, but Witton struck next. Midfielder Harrop restored the home side’s advantage in the 69th minute with a well-placed finish after a slick team move down the left flank.
Mossley refused to fold. Just seven minutes later, substitute Baltazar rose highest from a corner to power home a header in the 76th minute, drawing the visitors’ level again and setting up a grandstand finish.
But Witton had the final say. With only minutes remaining, Raymond latched onto a loose ball just inside the box and fired a low, driven shot into the bottom corner to make it 3-2 in the 78th minute —sending Wincham Park into raptures and breaking Mossley hearts.
Despite a frantic final 12 minutes — including seven minutes of stoppage time — the Lilywhites couldn’t find another equaliser, as Witton’s reorganised backline held firm under pressure.
The result hands Witton Albion a vital three points in their league campaign and ends Mossley’s recent run of form. The Lilywhites will look to bounce back when they host Buxton next weekend, while Witton travel to face Marine, aiming to build on this hard-fought victory.
