Salford City put their Carabao Cup heartache behind them in the perfect manner, securing their first home league win of the season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Accrington Stanley at the Peninsula Stadium, writes Baraa Mohammed.

The Ammies showed immense character to overcome a spirited Accrington side, with early goals from Ben Woodburn and Luke Garbutt providing a crucial cushion.

It was a performance that had everything—flashes of attacking brilliance, defensive resilience, and a nervy finale that had the home faithful on the edge of their seats.

From the first whistle, Salford looked a team re-energized. The partnership of Woodburn and Jay Bird caused constant problems, with Woodburn breaking the deadlock in the 23rd minute with a low drive from outside the box after some slick build-up play.

Just four minutes later, the home fans erupted again when Luke Garbutt curled a magnificent free-kick into the top corner, a stunning effort that doubled the Ammies’ advantage.

Salford controlled the first half, but the second period was a different story. Accrington came out with renewed purpose, and goalkeeper Mark Howard was forced into a number of key saves to protect the two-goal lead.

The tension was palpable when Tyler Walton scored from the spot with just five minutes remaining, setting up a frantic finish. The Ammies dug deep, holding firm against a late onslaught to secure all three points.

The win not only puts the Ammies back on track in the league but also reinforces the belief that this team possesses the spirit and grit to compete. After a challenging week, this performance was a powerful statement of intent.
