Seven footballers from the Wanderers’ first team squad set to be side-lined during the season preparations, writes Bobby McLellan.

Bolton’s star man, Dion Charles was finally given the green light by medics on a recurring knee ligament issue that he picked up during a clash with Wycombe Wanderers in February.

Gethin Jones is to have a scan on a knee injury that he has picked up since returning back to The Whites’ pre-season camp.

Two of Bolton’s new coups this season also on the injury list with defender Chris Forino set to miss a few weeks after he picked up a thigh injury in training.
However, Luke Southwood is set to return to training this week after breaking his fibula late last season.

Jack Iredale is set for a return shortly as he is recovering from a groin injury.

Finally, Randell Williams and Carlos Mendes Gomes will be out of action for a while due to their injuries.

Williams injured his foot prior to the play-off final and is still several weeks away from a return. Whereas Gomes will hopefully be back in contention towards the end of the year after rupturing his Achilles tendon during a defeat against local rivals Wigan Athletic.

Wanderers boss, Ian Evatt, said that his squad was light after a victory against West Brom at St. George’s Park on Saturday.

“It’s tough at the moment, we’ve got 14 or 15 fit first team players,” he said.

“We’ve got seven injured, which isn’t ideal, some historical from last season, some injured in the off-season, which is unheard of.

“We are working hard to bring more players in.

“Myself and Chris Markham are working hard all the time on the recruitment front.”
